"Throughout the world and among the membership of the Church, there is great joy and great pain. Both are part of the plan. Without one, we cannot know the other. “Men are, that they might have joy” (2 Nephi 2:25) and “for it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things” (2 Nephi 2:11) are not contradictory; they are complementary." ~Elder Donald L. Hallstrom
Oh Life.
How I love thee and thy ways in which you test and try me, while also bringing me happiness and joy. At times the contradiction nearly makes my head spin.
The last two weeks were spent West again. I know, Stella and I are very lucky to have a family who spoils us by making it possible for us to attend our favorite family events. Jace seems to think all the grocery money goes to flying Stella and I home, but I assure you that the growing boy is anything but starved.
The hospital stay was due to two large blood clots in his legs and fluid in his lungs. Two minor procedures and a couple nights stay later all was taken care of and dad was released on oxygen and with an unsure future.
Our little vacation was still wonderful, but it was filled with more deep discussions and questions then I thought it would. Although the future remains unclear, we know that all will be okay. It has always been in the Lord's hands and it continues to be. Sometimes I question the timing and the promises we have received, but I know that things are happening now for a reason. One of the hardest parts is that Jace leaves on his mission in one month. I think he is dealing with the situation different than any of us, but he is the strongest 19 year old boy I know and his faith and strong desire to serve a mission no matter the circumstances inspires me.
Despite those turbulent first few days our time was also full of happy, funny, joyful moments. And I would say those far outweighed the scary, uncertain ones.
Dad was such a trooper and although most of the time he was resting, he wasn't left behind and was present for all of our crazy gatherings. Having him there truly made everything perfect.
It is tradition that we all celebrate the 4th of July here and after nearly 3 years of missing the fun I was able to introduce Stella to it's beauty.
This one took us to the one and only Bear Lake!
The bi-annual Coffin family reunion is one of the greatest of all time. Folks come from Arizona, New Mexico, California, Ohio :), and all over Utah and Idaho to enjoy the festivities.
Time at the lake, riding dirtbikes, bridal showers, hilarious plays, hot dog roast on the beach, yummy breakfasts, and more are what make the few days spent together so wonderful. Again, dad didn't make many appearances, but I know so many people enjoyed their quick visits with him.
Stella was pretty intrigued with the fireEven Stella liked it.
I think I liked it a little more when grandma was watching the babe sleep on the beach and I was in the middle of the lake floating with Diet Coke in hand.
Just sayin.
Carson is three months younger than Stella, but seems to have more hair then well, my husband. Lucky.
What a little overachiever.

Walks enjoying beautiful Cache Valley and play dates with favorite friends were also on the dockett.

Walks enjoying beautiful Cache Valley and play dates with favorite friends were also on the dockett.Don't worry, we weren't too bored.

Our two week extravaganze ended on the highest of high notes as we were able to attend the Temple with Jace.
In the wake of everything going on it was an amazing experience to be in the temple with my eternal family. We missed Ryan and Taigen, but hopefully we will all be there together again. I know that no matter what we will be.
The beautiful sight that met us as we left the Temple

So the trip was a bit of a whirlwind, but worth every minute of craziness.
Ryan, Stella, and I will be braving the friendly skies one more time in the coming months to help send Elder Hansen off to Bolivia for two years.
I am sure that trip won't be any less void of emotion and tears than this one, but it will be a special and important opportuniy to spend time ALL together as a family.
I can honestly say coming home to Ohio was a little bittersweet this time. So sweet because we missed Ryan so so much, but a lot bitter because my dad has declined so much in so little time.
But as I have said before, we still have faith and we know that whatever is going to happen is what should be and we will be okay.
Throughout the last four years our family has tried to stay positive. My dad has always told us that we weren't going to have a pity party, and I think we have done a pretty good job of not doing so. It doesn't mean it hasn't been hard and some days really hard, but it does mean that we have and still enjoy each day and will continue to find joy in the journey.

I'm sorry about your dad! It is great you got to spend a lot of time with him. I hope everything goes okay. Your sweet little girl is more beautiful every time I see a new picture of her...guess she gets it from you.
Stella is so big and beautiful! She seems to have grown so much even since your last post.
My heart aches for you and your wonderful family since reading this and Kyrsten's post. Your dad is always in my prayers, and your faith is a great example to me.
But your trip looked wonderful! Stella is well-loved ;)

Taryn, Just read your post and it seems you alwaya say just the right things that I cannot say. But you know our thoughts and our prayers are for the same great family that are always there to help. Gramdpa & Grandma
Taryn, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm glad you have had so many chances to visit though. I can't believe how 'big' (tall/old) Jace is... Holy smokes. He will be an awesome missionary. What a fabulous blessing a mission is. Good luck to him and good luck to your family!
I'm glad you were able to go out west for your beloved trips! I'm sure it is priceless spending time with your family with Jace leaving and your Dad not feeling well. We are happy to have you and Stella back - we've missed you (and I know your hubby has too!)
Glad you had a good time with fam...I know it was much needed :) We are glad to have you back here with us, though!
So fun to look through your pictures. What a doll! I am so sorry to hear about your dad. You and your family are doing an amazing job. You are in my prayers. Thanks for posting such good blog posts. I love following!
Oh Taryn! We miss you guys so much and we're praying for you and your family. I can't imagine, but I gain strength from your words and your strength and hope. We love you guys and want to have you over sometime soon. I'm glad you had fun in Utah, we were there the same time!
What an emotional whirlwind of a trip I'm sure! I am so sorry to hear about the turn with your dad. I just had tears as I read your post and thought about what it must be like for your family. You will continue to be in our prayers. If you guys have time after Jace leaves before you leave town I'd love to see you, even if I need to drive up to Logan! Q2 reunion maybe?
P.S. Stella is just a doll! I can't believe she's sitting up!
You're little gal is just getting so big! She is such a doll face! Your trip sounds like it was a good one, and I'm sad I couldn't see you while you were in Logan, but I think you're right that you guys need to make a trip out here pretty quick:) 10 hours isn't that long...:) We miss you and pray for your dad. You guys are an amazing family and wonderful examples to everyone around you. Love you!
Gosh! I just don't know what to say! I'm sorry your trip started out a little rough. I think about and pray for your family often, especially your dad. When you left my house a few weeks back, I couldn't help myself from crying. I wish I could say eloquent things to make you feel better. I would like to be more like you in that respect, as well as many others. I love you dearly, you hold a special place in my heart. Glad the trip ended with a temple trip. I need to get back there. Also, glad you get to come back soon. Love and miss you!!!
Once again you have made me cry... You have been so positive in everything. Stay strong and remember that everything happens for a reason. I know you know this, but it is always nice when people remind you that you are NEVER alone. Call me if you ever need to talk, I am always here. Love you!
Love you girl! Looks like you guys had some fun on your trip over here. Stella is so stinkin cute! I still have yet me meet her...sad! We will have to try and make it over to pokie for Jace's fairwell...if my doc will let me! I will be very prego by then...like a month away.
I just wanna say that you and your family are always in our prayers. Tayson prays everyday that "Uncle Scott will have a good day." We too were hoping that your miracle would be the Huntsman trial. We are still praying for that miracle but know that the Lords will will be. Your dad is such an amazing and strong person. I have grown to love him and your family so much since I have joined the family. My heart aches with you as I have watched his condition worsen. However, my heart has rejoiced and my testimony has been strenthened as I have watched him and your family show your faith and trust in the Lord. Thank you for that!
Hopefully we will be seeing you and your cutie (Stella) soon!
LOVE YOU TAR! Love the faith of a family...it's inspiring.
More hair than...well, my husband?
I was laughing among the tears. Beautiful writing.
See you soon. xoxo
Hey Taryn- maybe you should be a writer instead of a dietitian. I love reading your posts. Your little baby Stella is beautiful in every way and I really want to meet her (so does Beau!). My heart and our prayers go out to your family. Your dad is a stud. Your mom is a wonder woman. and you have the best, tightly woven family I know. I admire your strength and testimony during such an enduring moment in life. Much love!
You have some beautiful pictures! I had no idea about your Dad! I am so glad that you got to see him and spend time with him.
