One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

This recovery process is really starting to bug me. We all know I am no good at sitting around doing nothing. I mean it is nice for about 2 days and then I just can't stand it. And I know I have had some pretty major interruptions to my body's natural processes, but let's just be done with it. There were a few days at that start that I didn't mind letting my mom and sisters clean my house and cook me dinner; or letting Ryan refilling my water mug 12 times a day. But now I just want to do those things myself and feel good so I can just love on my baby.

I have had a couple days of feeling really well. I get up, get Stella ready, get myself ready and take her to the doctor. Then the next day I am still feeling well, but learn my incision isn't healing properly and get the opportunity to let Dr. Ryan stuff gauze into my stomach for the next week to help it heal. (Sorry...that was a little gory)

Next my mom and sisters leave. Not such a good day. Lots of crying. By then end of the day I am running a fever, shaking like a leaf, and drenching my sheets in sweat throughout the night. Fevers again the next day, but we got to pick up Grandma P from the airport and let her help us love on little Stella so it wasn't too bad overall. Yesterday I decided it was probably a good idea to call the Doc about those lovely fevers. Well...they sent me to the ER. 5 hours and 9 inches of snow later (did I mention the blizzard that was going on during this time, that I had to be away from my baby for 5 HOURS, that the power went out at our house while we were gone, and that we were there so long I started to leak breast milk all over my hospital gown?!?!) I leave the ER with a diagnosis of mastitis and an antibiotic. Ugh.

Today, however; marks no fever for 2 days; a beautiful, healthy, and very good little girl; and I even made my bed. Two steps forward for sure.

And of course some pictures of the little beauty herself. It really is all about her now :)

Grandma P gave Stell this cute little lady bug outfit and tutu before she was born so we just had to try it on :)

oh Taryn I feel so bad for you. I had mastitis 4 times while I was nursing so I know how you feel and it's no fun at all. I hope you feel better soon though so you can get back to taking care of your beautiful baby the way you want to.

The mastitis thing totally happened to me around the same time too, and man does it suck. Glad to hear things are going better. Don't you love the pictures of baby and dad sleeping? Those are always my favorite.

First off, I swear baby Stella is a little Taryn. Love her. I'm sorry about the mastitis. I've never experienced that, but have heard it's painful. I mean come on, isn't nursing hard enough in the beginning without that crap? Empathize with the "leaking" though. Started to hemorrhage late one night after Jack and had to rush to the ER. They didn't have nursing pads, so they gave my a pair of maxi pads... totally made my boobs look hot! You are so positive an taking things in stride, it sounds. Hang in there. Love you bunches!

I'm sorry you've had so rough the past little while. But you do sound positive, so good for you. I had my galbladder removed about two months after Finn was born and thank goodness I had pumped enough milk for him to last through the day, but I was leaking milk all over! So I know how that goes. I'm sure now that you are over the mastitis things will get much better, let others take care of you! You deserve it! You're body has been through a lot and it takes time, so take it easy.

Oh no... I'm getting scared! You didn't tell me you had to go the ER and that you had mastitis! You poor thing! I am sure glad you are doing better, you definitely seem more positive than I would probably be at this point. I hope things continue to get better...

Bummer! I hear that stuff is awful....hopefully that's the only time it will happen! Glad you've been enjoying all the company...I would check in with you more often, but don't want to intrude when you have so many others there to take care of you! By the way, the ladybug outfit, ADORABLE!

After I had Shaefer (via c-section) I got an infection on my incision also......no fun at all! It was just when I started feeling better too! Anyway - If you are on an antibiotic, watch little Stella for thrush!

Oh my heck! I'm sorry you've been going through all of that. Hope you are in the clear. I can only imagine how hard it was to see your family leave, especially in such an emotional state. Glad P's mom is there. I am praying that the healing process gets better and that you have no more issues. I love you!!! (LOVE THE PICTURES)

Taryn, I'm sorry you have been through so much, I hadn't heard about your surgery, well I knew you had a C sec, but didn't know the rest of the story, and I am glad you are feeling better now, and that you had such great help with all the family, hopefully your incesion is healing now, time really helps. Little Stella is so adorable, and I know you and Ryan are the best parents to her, she will grow so fast so just enjoy every moment, soon you will be like me, but then the Grandchildren will come and they will fill the hole the children who left .anyway, can't wait to meet her. maybe we can stop by if I ride out to New York with Uncle Bri, i'll let you know in plenty of time, love to all, Kino

Allison, it was an adventure at the airport, we were 45 minutes delayed at Columbus and so we landed in cinncinatti at 2 and our other plane was scheduled to leave at 2. 3 of us had to run from the very end of concorse a to the opposite end of concorse B. I told the two guys with me You guys sprint and tell them to wait for me. I made it in thirteen minutes just behind the guys. the plane waited for us. How nice! then we waited another 30 minuites to deice in Cinn. Then off to beautiful SLC where it was warm and the sun was shining. Taryn & Allison the reason you have no snow plows in Columbus was because I'm pretty sure they were all out plowing the runway at Columbus airport. But I made it, crying more than half the time wanting to go back and hold her one more time. This is Teresa not Ashlie.

Hope you are feeling 100% now. Being sick is never fun but specially when you have a new little one around that you just want to cuddle and love. I am feeling bad though...I'm as healthy as a horse and my baby is sleeping like a log while I sit here blog peeking in my pj's and my house a mess! You are defiantly ten steps ahead of me :)
