Our sweet Stella girl is six!!! Sometimes it's hard to believe she is only six, because her soul is certainly much older than that. She is just the greatest human, and I am so lucky to call her my girl. We are grateful for the wonderful example she is to her sisters, cousins and friends; and for her desire to always learn and do what is right.
Her birthday was spent eating donuts for breakfast, opening presents (her favorites included her very own camera, Ivy and Bean books, and a new disco light speaker), passing out birthday treats to her class, having friends over to play, eating at her favorite Pizza Pie Cafe for dinner, and blowing out the candles on her giant cookie cake while wearing the birthday princess balloon crown. Kind of sounds like the perfect day when you are six-years-old.
It was Stella's turn to have a birthday party with friends, and after some discussion about party themes (I'm the worst and tried hard to steer her away from her initial idea of an Elsa party complete with homemade tinfoil crowns for each guest) we decided an art party might be fun. And fun it was. Thanks to a quick scroll through Pinterest, I found three easy ideas to copy and after a quick two-day Amazon shipment, we were ready to party. And considering I had twelve five and six-year-olds using paints inside my home, it turned out quite well.
When it comes to school Stella is still doing great with her reading, and her handwriting and math skills are also coming along nicely. She still loves school, and I've started helping in her class for an hour once a month. Between those volunteer hours, career day and the class V-day party it's been fun to see how she interacts with her teacher and peers. She is a great listener, friend and helper. She loves rotating through "specials" each week, and is always excited for PE and Science day.
She moved up to the next class in primary, and is trying very hard to remember to bring her scriptures each week. She loves volunteering to read the Article of Faith or scripture during sharing time, and has taken an interest in planning FHE for the family. She is always the first to volunteer to say the prayer at dinner or bed, and reminds us to read scriptures during breakfast each day.
Her current extracurricular activities include dance and singing group, and she thoroughly enjoys both. She is hoping to try gymnastics and piano lessons soon, and is always asking when her next session of swimming lessons will start. She likes a full schedule.
Playing with her little sisters is still a cool thing (thankfully!), although I can see bits and pieces of being "too cool" coming through on occasion. She loves to play princesses with Eliza, push Ivy in her doll stroller, and has recently taken an interest in Legos. Her library still happens on occasion, and she is looking forward to holding another session with her friends this summer.
The girl is certainly growing physically, as well. She checked out great at her well child check, weighing in around 48 pounds and hitting the 90-95th percentile for height. People always comment that she is tall, but until this last appointment she has always fallen within the 50-60th percentiles. I'm not really surprised by this growth spurt since every dress I buy her seems to be too short after only a month (that could also be due to my drying all my kids clothing instead of taking the time to hang things up like I should).
As she gets older, it seems that her funny sayings are being replaced by moments when I hear her say something and think, "How in the world does she know that?!" But here are a few moments that have made us smile over the last six months.
While playing house with Eliza she told her,"If you're going to be a mom you have to remember your kid's ages!"
The girls like to use our play instruments and microphone to pretend they are in a band. After one jam session she says,"All we need now is another player, a tour bus, and real instruments!"
The other day we were driving through town talking about a business that was located in the same office building as Ryan's dental office. During the course of our conversation she correctly used the phrase "family-owned-business" and I was just amazed she even knew to say that.
She was pretending that Ivy was her child and said,"Having a one-year-old is really hard when you're a six-year-old!"
She was playing with her Barbies and pretending that they were calling each other on their Apple watches.
We sure love you, Stella Rose! Thank you for making our family so wonderful. We are proud of the fun, beautiful and smart girl you are becoming each day. Keep up the good work!

You're supposed to hang kids clothes to dry? Crap! That's never going to happen. She is so sweet. I love the funny things she says. I still remember when you had her! Time really does fly.
