June is here and summer is already treating us right. It's the first summer that I feel like we are going from days full of lessons and school to a a more relaxed, unstructured way of life. And I am liking the change already.
We started things off with a quick trip to our local "lake." Dierkes seems to either be loved or loathed by the locals, but a weekday trip at 10 am was pretty perfect. We met up with some friends, both new and old, and played for hours digging in the sand, dumping water on one another, and playing on the playground. It was a good enough day to make me a fan of Dierkes for now.
And then we left with my children looking like a couple of homeless kids thanks to wet clothes.
I have never been a huge fan of snow cones, they are fine but I would take a milkshake any day. These little girls sort of love them, though. During a visit to Pocatello great grandpa Norman spoiled the girls by providing them each with a $5 bill. Soon after we made our way to dinner where they spotted a snow cone shack nearby. Miss Stella decided to spend her money on a delicious snow cone for her and her sister. The white shirts weren't my best idea, but they actually came out fairly unscathed; and I am pretty sure those snow cones won't be our last.
The girls love to swim and have already been able to have lots of fun in the water. Stella had an end-of-year swim party for school, and Eliza was plenty excited to take a dip in grandma Teresa's backyard pool.
We finished our weekend with the perfect summer evening with the Palmers. Swimming in the backyard, tinfoil dinners, and roasting marshmallows around grandma's fire pit. So far summer is not letting us down, and it just gets more fun from here. We have a very busy summer ahead of us with almost every single weekend already booked with some vacation or event.
So bring on the sunshine, swimming pools, and snow cones. We're ready for ya summer!
