So yesterday I tried to write a check and date it as August 15th.
And that's all I have to say about that.
August was great. I feel like we have had a perfect summer full of sunshine, surprises, and the big and small moments that make up a wonderful life.
Our Stake here in Billings is growing rapidly, and as a result they created three new wards that started meeting at the beginning of the month. We ended up in a brand new ward with the lovely start time of 2:30 pm. That's right, while all of you are settling in for a long Sunday nap, we are just getting to church and preparing ourselves for three long hours right in the middle of our children's nap time. And that, my friends, is why we are moving to Idaho. Okay, not really but ever since we found out we would be leaving it has made that 2:30 start just a little easier.
Obviously our surprise move to Idaho seems to be dominating our lives right now. Between packing, hosting our first garage sale (and making $175!), and finishing last days of work it is becoming more and more apparent that this whole thing is actually happening. And it's happening this week. I will pick Nana and Papa P up from the airport Tuesday, we will enjoy a Wednesday full of last minute errands and packing, and Thursday will be spent cleaning the house and loading the truck. After our sleepover in an empty house we will head out early Friday morning to our new home. Of course I am feeling the huge mix of emotions that normally accompany a move. I am excited for a fresh start, sad to be leaving wonderful friends and a great job, and nervous for the unknown. But experience has shown me that it will all work out. When has it not?
The normal bits and pieces of life that seemed to fill in the cracks of the major stuff included trips to Costco, hitting the jackpot on school clothes at the local Walmart, daddy-daughter dates to the movie theater (including large Root Beers), and all around cuteness. Before we knew we would be leaving we decided to join a little babysitting group that gave us three free date nights a month in exchange for four hours trying to entertain and feed 12 kids. We survived our one and only night of babysitting, and in return got to enjoy a couple of nights on the town without having to pay a sitter. The classic soda fountain seemed like the perfect ending to what could likely be our last date night for awhile.
We were lucky to spend a few unexpected days with Nana Joni, KK, Shag, and baby Gib thanks to living with the family dentist. Four fillings and two root canals later and everyone was as happy as could be. We spent the remainder of our time cutting E's mullet, packing a few boxes, and sleeping for 10 hours of the day. I guess that last part was just me, as I came down with a nasty cold in the middle of their visit. They were the best and let me catch up on sleep while they chased my two crazies around Target and bought them stuff. I certainly got the better end of the deal.
Mama Joni, the angel that she is, celebrated another year older and wiser, too. She is the greatest lady that pretty much anyone knows, and I feel pretty blessed to have her as my go-to in this life. I can only hope to be half the mother, interior designer, party planner, friend, and grandma that she is. She has helped to teach me some of the most important things about life; including faith in adversity, charity towards my fellow man, and a love of Target clearance. She is the best of the best.
Well August, you've been good to us. By the time we are ready to recap September we will have moved 500 miles away, visited Mexico, started preschool, and spent lots more time with our now close proximity families. The party just doesn't stop with us.
