Hurricane Season in Ohio
As unlikely as it sounds, we felt the wrath of Hurricane Ike here in Ohio. I didn't know I signed up for this type of weather when we moved out here! Winds of up to 70 mph hit Columbus on Sunday blowing and whipping around everything imaginable- as you can see from the pictures below. Our power went out about 3pm on Sunday and thankfully was back on by 8:30 that night. Some people (including one building in our complex) still don't have power and likely won't have it before the weekend is over. Kroger still doesn't have power and Ryan has spent his last few days at work THROWING AWAY OVER $100,000 WORTH OF FOOD!! I know- doesn't it just make you sick? The lights and registers run on generators, but for some reason the coolers don't. That means all dairy, meats, produce, and frozen goods had to be discarded. Ryan actually just left for his last day at Kroger and couldn't be happier. One thing this experience has done is reinforced the importance of emergency preparedness and food storage. It is something we will be working harder at keeping up to date and well stocked. Some pictures of the storms aftermath are below:

Besides running away from hurricanes we have been having lots of fun with our new friends. Almost all the new first year dental and medical students have arrived and we have been making some great friends and having a great time. We all got together and had a Cafe Rio night at our place. Hannah, Britni, and I made up all the food and it tasted really good! I even had to buy some tin containers to make it more authentic. We also got together to watch the horrible USC vs OSU game last weekend. We won't spend much time talking about the outcome of the game, but our party was a blast! Thanks Nate and Britni!

Crazy stuff, eh? I'm glad your power was only out for a few hours, I feel so bad for those that are still without electricity! I agree, having all these new friends is awesome, makes the transition so much easier! Have fun on your sports trip!
excuse me, we have a patent on those pictures so you guys owe us $1000...
Looks like a big group of friends, fun! I can't believe the damage from Ike! Were you scared? Love you!

That sounds like some crazy wind! Glad you guys didn't get the worst of it, but that is still super scary. Besides lack of power, I hope everything is going well.
That is so scary that you guys are experiencing the hurricane! I wouldn't have thought it would be in Ohio either. It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun there though. That is so awesome...I love Cafe Rio!
tare-- i need that recipe for cafe rio! i'm graving it so badly! i love you.. hope you are having a good day. tell ry hi and that i love him. miss you both like crazy.
Wow! I can't believe that the storm hit you so hard there in Ohio! I'm so glad that there is a great group of people there for dental school. I hope we get that with medical school as well. Things are going well with applications and stuff. Justin's got all but two of his secondary applications done and is now just playing the waiting game, hoping to get some interviews soon. We'll definately let you know if he gets an interview there at Ohio State. I'm sure he'd love to have someone there who knows the area a little and can show him some of the campus and stuff. I hope that denatl school goes great for Ryan! That's pretty exciting that he had his last day of working at Kroger. That's probably the last day of work he'll ever have to do in something that doesn't interest him! Wahoo! I bet that feels so good for him and you.
I don't know how you fit in everything that you do! It was so fun to talk to Breanne after she came to visit you. I'm really glad everything's going so well for you guys.
Take care!
